In early 2019 the world was hit with the first surge of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many healthcare practitioners and health systems would for the first time experience a large surge in patients suffering acute respiratory failure requiring airway mangement combined with a personal risk to healthcare workers. Therefore many societies and instiutions developed protocols and guidance on how to safely manage the airway of these patients as well as how to best protect the airway managers. This talk will share the experiences of a major London teaching hospital, which was on the frontline in the UK managing these patients and I will discuss the COVID-19 intubation guidelines developed by DAS in the UK and other airway societies.
